Application Procedure
As a young musician there are different possibilities to take part in Musethica. You can join a Musethica session, an international festival, or apply to a university program. You can apply as an individual or with an established chamber music ensemble.
You can apply to one or several of Musethicas different activities.
Musethicas sessions are week-long courses where each musician or ensemble has the opportunity to play between 10-14 concerts of solo and chamber music works. The sessions typically start with two days of rehearsals and/or masterclasses. Thereafter, concerts take place daily in different parts of the community. The musicians perform alongside Musethicas Tutors. An important aspect of the sessions is the tutors’ role to give feedback to the younger musicians between and after the concerts. Discussions, rehearsals, and lessons with the tutors are crucial for the young musicians’ development.Musethicas sessions take place several times a year in different countries. Some of the sessions take place as a part of prestigious chamber music festivals such as Voice of Music in the Upper Galilee Israel, Zeist Music Days Holland, Gotland Chamber Music Festival Sweden, Korsholm Music Festival Finland. You can also take part in Musethica through the ECMA program.
Musethica International Festivals are based on the same principle as the sessions, but with more musicians, more different chamber music groups, and more tutors.
Musethica is offered as a part of the Postgraduate Program of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The application is open exclusively for established string quartets. String quartets that are interested in the program should contact the international office for more information: juliettedufau@musethica.org
The musicians of Musethica make up a unique international community of professionals that share the strong social experience of performing music to many different kinds of audiences. Musethicas method has proven to be an effective tool for advanced musicians to master the art of performance. Many of Musethicas students and alumni are prize winners of prestigious international competitions. The Musethica International Artistic Committee carries out the selection of new applications from individual musicians as well as ensembles. In most cases, a scholarship is offered to cover the tuition fee to all accepted musicians participating in Musethica activities.
To ensure that the selection process is fair and unbiased, the jury that receives and scores the audition videos will not receive CVs or any background information about the musicians they are scoring. Jury members also only score musicians who live and study in a different country to themselves, to avoid them being known to each other.
